Trend Alert: Animal Prints

Animal prints were spotted across the fall/winter 2018 runways and will be one of the wildest trends this season.  All puns aside, leopard print is the hot new item this fall and it is entering the world of fashion in a very chic way. Animal prints were featured on pant suits as seen in shows by Diane Von Furstenberg and Victoria Beckham. All over leopard print coats were displayed by Area, Carolina Herrera, and Calvin Klein. However, the trend is not limited to coats and suits; it has infiltrated all types of clothing items and accessories, including belts and jewelry. The following are ready-to-wear ideas on how to incorporate animal prints into your wardrobe for every occasion.

Outfit #1:

Incorporate animal print into an edgy outfit by pairing a leopard print dress with a moto leather jacket and a wool hat. Finish the look with platform booties and a stylish backpack. The outfit can be subdued by using black as your primary color (i.e., as seen on the jacket, booties, and hat). If making a “loud” statement is more your style, you can combine leopard with other prints and/or brighter hues, such as a bright red or neon. An olive backpack is used here as a more subtle pop of color that pairs well with the brown tones of the dress. The outfit can be dressed down by pairing it with your favorite sneakers (i.e., Converse or Vans) or combat boots (i.e., Dr. Martens 1490 Smooth).

Outfit #2:

Leopard print can be added to your list of neutrals this season, since the animal print will be acting as one for months to come. A leopard bodysuit can be paired with paperbag denim shorts and a chunky knit cardigan for a more casual look. Finish the look with combat boots and your favorite satchel or messenger bag for a trendy and relaxed fall-ready outfit. This American Eagle cardigan comes in multiple color options, including gray, rust, and olive, and has stellar reviews.  All of these colors complement the bodysuit and can be incorporated into your accessories if you are aiming for a more colorful look (i.e., a mustard cardigan with a burgundy messenger). You can switch the denim shorts for tailored trouser shorts and the combat boots for platform booties to dress up the outfit.

Outfit 3:

Pair leopard print soft shorts with a black bodysuit and mustard blazer for a chic fall transition outfit. A messenger bag and studded ankle boots harden the look. For a dressier alternative, incorporate high heel booties and a clutch with matching hardware. Your jewelry choices will dictate the overall look, whether you are aiming toward a minimalist or maximalist aesthetic. Bold statement pieces can be incorporated with ease for an evening outfit that has maximalist glamour. However, minimal approach can still be maintained by using only one statement piece.
