Easy & Unique Halloween Costumes

Outfit #1: Holly Golightly: Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Audrey Hepburn’s Holly Golightly costume with the little black dress and the pearls is a bit overdone, don’t you agree? However, the outfit she wears in the sleeping scene with the buttoned down oversized white shirt and blue eye mask is just as recognizable (especially after Reese Witherspoon sported it in Big Little Lies). It is a simple outfit consisting of just an oversized buttoned down white shirt and custom made eye mask along with tassel ear plugs. A men’s dress shirt can be used, as well as sizing up on a white shirt dress. The one linked below is an oversized buttoned down shirt dress from ASOS and is perfect for this costume (and incorporating it into your wardrobe after Halloween is a bonus). The eye mask can become a DIY project by gluing gold sequins to a turquoise eye mask (or one you paint the desired color) and adding false lashes to it. If DIY is not your thing, an eye mask and tassel earrings can be ordered from Etsy. Finish the look with chic fur slippers and the costume is complete. Remember that Audrey Hepburn has a full face of makeup in this scene with a smoky eye and all. For instructions on how to achieve this makeup look, check out The Beauty In It.

Outfit #2: Penny Lane: Almost Famous

Penny Lane has one of the coolest and carefree styles in film history. It is also fairly simple to replicate. The key element of the outfit is a suede and fur coat, ideally olive with white fur. However, an oversized statement coat with fur sleeves and a fur collar should be recognizable enough. Kate Hudson wears chocolate brown velvet bell bottoms and a white crop top with cognac cork wedges in one of the famous scenes from the movie. Flared denim is an acceptable alternative to the velvet pants, since Penny is seen wearing the denim variant in multiple scenes. The look is finalized by adding the iconic round and blue sunglasses.

This alternate version of Penny Lane consists of a brown mini skirt, white blouse, and embroidered boots. The look is complete with the signature round blue glasses and fur coat.

Outfit #4: White Rabbit: Alice in Wonderland

The White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland is fairly simple to emulate and only a few accessories are needed. The main components of the outfit are black bottoms (your choice of shorts, mini skirt, or pants), a white blouse, and a black blazer. Black shorts were used in this interpretation paired with black and white striped tights for a quirky touch. Add bunny ears, a clock, black umbrella, and a bow tie to finish the look. There are no restrictions regarding footwear for this costume. You can wear ballet flats for a more romantic look or combat boots for a punk touch. Check out Mei Yan’s makeup tutorial for a vintage looking White Rabbit that will work well with this modern version.

Outfit #5

This is a sultry version of Beetlejuice and fairly simple to replicate, since only a few pieces are needed. A black and white striped bodycon dress paired with combat boots and green hair are the essentials. Watch Carah Amelie’s girly Beetlejuice makeup tutorial for tips. Don’t want to wear a dress? Try a black and white striped tutu with tights and a black and white blazer or a black and white jumpsuit like the one featured below. Anything with black and white stripes when paired with green hair and zombie-like makeup will resemble Beetlejuice, especially if accompanied by a mischievous attitude.
